EDSP 6990 Assessment in Low Incidence Disabilities
Prerequisite: consent of the department. Topic will vary from semester to
semester. Section number will correspond with the credit hours to be earned.
Course may be repeated for a maximum of six semester hours within particular
degree program. 3 credit hours. Mon/ 5PM – 7:45PM/ On-Line synchronous delivery using Microsoft Live Meeting

 

To apply and register for courses at UNO:

New students or students who have missed a semester must visit http://admissions.uno.edu/app.cfm for application information. Once accepted you may register through the WEBSTAR link on the UNO homepage ( http://www.uno.edu ). All current UNO students can register for these classes as they usually do through WEBSTAR. Once registered you will be entered into your course’s Blackboard site. It is important that you check your course Blackboard site the week before classes to make sure you are ready to attend your first class.

Spring 2010 Courses

EDCI 499 Instructional Strategies and Materials for Teaching Blind Students    3 hours credit  online
Students learn how to teach children to read using Braille.  Methods, materials for successful Braille readers are discussed.
Requisite: Course participants should be proficient in the Literary Braille code.

EDCI 579 Developmental Aspects of Blindness
3 hours credit  onsite
Course emphasizes knowledge of physical, social, and emotional development of blind children including acquisition of motor, language, and cognitive skills, birth through adulthood.

EPSY 581 Blindness Rehabilitation Systems and Issues  
3 hours credit  onsite
The course presents an overview of rehabilitation history, concepts, programs and services; professional responsibilities and ethics in the field of work with blind/visually impaired adults.

EPSY 583 Advanced Orientation & Mobility  
3 hours credit  onsite
The course provides instruction for teaching techniques of independent mobility to blind/visually impaired individuals with strategies for rural environments, public transportation.
Prerequisite: EPSY 480 Introduction to Orientation and Mobility

Unless otherwise noted, all courses offered above are delivered online.

These courses are offered via interactive videoconferencing on the web at http://lalidc.uno.edu. Students MUST have weekly access to a high speed internet connection (DSL, Cable or better), a web camera, and headset with microphone (both available for about $40.00 each at numerous local retailers like Best Buy, Office Depot, Wal-Mart). If you register for an online class you need to download the free Microsoft Live Meeting software on your home computer (you will need a web camera, headset with microphone, PC [not Mac] computer, and cable or DSL internet connection), so read the LiveMeeting tips on this web site.
